چکیده

Department of Electronics & IT S.D.College, Ambala Cantt Haryana Abstract: Biometrics is the process of automated recognition of individuals based on their behavioral and physiological characteristics. Biometrical authentication is the process of making sure that the person is who he claims to be. Physiological biometric traits include face and retina structures, fingerprint (whorls minutia), hand geometry, iris (pattern), ear (structure of the cartilaginous tissue of the pinna), palm vein and DNA structures etc where as Behavioral biometric traits include gait patterns, signatures, keystroke and odor etc. Biometric is a very accurate and reliable method as compared to traditional knowledge based (e.g., passwords) and token based (e.g., ID cards) mechanisms. Various biometrics are used on the basis of the scope of the testing medium, the accuracy required and speed required. Every medium of authentication has its own advantages and shortcomings.

A Comparison Based Study on Biometrics for Human Recognition

A biometric system provides automatic recognition of an individual based on a unique feature or characteristic possessed by the individual. These biometric characteristic may physiological or behavioral. Unlike other identification methods such as id proof, tokens and password, the distinct aspect of biometric recognition comes into light from randomly distributed features in human being. In th...

Biometrics – Introduction, Characteristics, Basic technique, its Types and Various Performance Measures

Biometrics is the science of measuring physical and/or behavioral characteristics that are unique to each individual and they verify that an individual is who he or she claims to be. I have discussed about various biometric characteristics. Then I discussed the basic technique and operation that every biometric system follows. This paper explains the various biometric methodologies with their c...

Comparison of various Feature encoding schemes for Implementation of Secured Biometric Template

316 Abstract— This paper provides a comparison among different feature encoding schemes used for implementation of biometric system using Iris pattern and suggests which feature encoding scheme is best suited for the creation of biometric template. This paper also proposes an encryption method to secure the templates. The advantage of using an encryption is that, neither the biometric template ...

A comparison of statistical methods for evaluating matching performance of a biometric identification device- a preliminary report

Confidence intervals are an important way to assess and estimate a parameter. In the case of biometric identification devices, several approaches to confidence intervals for an error rate have been proposed. Here we evaluate six of these methods. To complete this evaluation, we simulate data from a wide variety of parameter values. This data are simulated via a correlated binary distribution. W...

Embedding Local Quality Measures in Minutiae-Based Biometric Recognition

Degradation in data quality is still a main source of errors in themodern biometric recognition systems. However, the data quality can be embedded in the recognition methods at global and local levels to build more accurate biometric systems. Local quality measures represent the quality of local parts within a biometric sample. They are either combined into a global quality measure or directly ...
